Prime Banking 2003 Action Plan Project

Client Business Issues:

Our client, a major Investment Bank had identified Prime Banking as a major growth area for the firm. A five year business plan was in place, but the client needed to the infrastructure (Operations and IT) with the business goals. In addition it was recognized that a more detailed, in depth and shorter duration plan would be needed to support immediate business objectives:

  1. Develop and implement a one year infrastructure action plan for 2003
  2. Review and align the 2003 infrastructure books of work with the business objectives

Our Approach:

In order to effect the above, Arc Partners developed and led a series of workshops that included participants from senior management, the business lines, operations, and IT. At these sessions we:

  1. Reviewed key business goals and drivers, both long and short term
  2. Reviewed and confirmed the 2003 infrastructure target states for processes, technology, and organization
  3. Identified and ranked key infrastructure gaps and chokepoints
  4. Aligned current and/or proposed projects with identified gaps and chokepoints
  5. Identified critical dependencies
  6. Identified resource shortfalls

Value Received by the Client:

From the data derived from the workshops we assembled a one year action plan for Operations and IT that would increase operational efficiency and capacity. In addition we established a work stream structure and an advisory board to oversee execution of the 2003 action plan. Senior management, the respective business lines and the client take on team were given a clear picture of what types of business could be brought on board with minimal impact and what types were likely to cause capacity and operational risk issues. In addition three headcount/project scenarios were detailed:

  1. Current (with resource shortfall)
  2. Zero growth over budget
  3. 20% reduction
